Hello (golf) World!

Posted by admin

Welcome to my first blog entry!  I’ve spent a lot of time lately exploring various other blogs dedicated to the great game of golf.  Some were exceptional, others, not so much.  I’ve decided to take a shot at it myself and I hope that you will find my thoughts, anecdotes and rants somewhat entertaining.  My goal is to post an entry every other day or so.  Of course it won’t always work out that way so I’ll try to give an indication at the end of each post as to when to expect a new one.

First, a little about myself and then I promise, no more personal stuff unless I have a good story to tell.  I’m a middle aged short white guy who’s been playing golf for a little over 20 years.  I’m obsessed with equipment, consumed by the thought of my next round, often haunted by the memory of my latest round while being ever so hopeful that one day, all 14 of my clubs will gather in celestial alignment and I’ll miraculously manage to snake in a 20 footer to break par.  In other words, I’m probably a lot like you…assuming most readers of this blog are average duffers who just can’t get enough of the endless pursuit of birdies.  My golf obsession got off to a bit of a late start.  No one on either side of my family plays and my high school was too small for a golf team.  It was only by chance that during my senior year, a transfer from Mesa AZ introduced me to the game (Thanks Danny).  Since then I’ve been a total golf nut.  All during college and my bachelorhood, I played golf every chance I got.  I have lived mostly in warm weather areas so almost every day of the year was a potential golf day.  Finally, at the age of 36, I married my lovely and talented wife.  It probably would have happened sooner if I hadn’t always been at the course or in bed early on Friday and Saturday nights due to next day tee times at the butt crack of dawn (Gotta start early if you’re going to get in 54).  The Golf Gods must have been saving her for me.  She’s been unbelievably supportive of my addiction and constant equipment tweaking and has gone many, many miles out of her way to make sure I continue to play early and often (Thanks Nic).

So enough about me.  I’ll be writing about a veritable cornucopia of golf related subjects in the coming weeks and months (maybe years if somebody likes it).  There will be no sacred cows here.  I usually have pretty strong opinions about most things golf and obviously, not all of you will agree with me all of the time.  Feel free to let me know when you think I’m wrong.  My wife may even weigh in from time to time if she senses that I’m full of crap that day.  She doesn’t play much now that we have our first little one, but she can speak intelligently on the subject as she has coordinated numerous corporate tournaments and has absorbed all of the golf overflow that has spewed from my pie hole for years now.  I call this absorption “Golfmosis”.

This blog is a work in progress.  I’ll be adding interesting and helpful links from time to time.  I’ll also include some of the golf related photos I’ve taken when appropriate.  Hope you’ll come back often and see how I’m doing.  Tell all your friends.  Until then, thanks for looking and good luck on the links!
