More on Golf Money

Posted by admin

I’m not posting as often as I’d like.  I got wrapped up in the notion that I could make a bunch of money selling golf clubs on eBay.  WRONG !!!  I can make a little money selling golf clubs on eBay.  I’m finding that if I wanted to replace my day job with this endeavor, I’d need 9 day work weeks and a staff of people to work round the clock to find inventory and create eBay listings.  Oh wait, if I’m going to have staff, they’ll need to be paid………crap.  Back to square one.  I haven’t given up on the idea of making a bit of extra spending money through golf but it’s apparently not going to be much more than a few dollars here and there with my current strategy.  The online golf and thrift store treasure hunting markets have gotten so saturated, there just isn’t a good way to maintain a profitable resale business.  As far as bulk suppliers go, China - corrupt, unclaimed freight companies - corrupt, wholesalers - corrupt (and rude).  I now am having to rely on a website I found that preys on  other peoples stupidity.  There is actually a website that lets you type in a product name you’d like to find on eBay and it returns misspelled listings.  Example:  I type in “Callaway” and get results for “Calaway”, “Callway”, “Callawy”….etc. I think I have an ethical problem with that but at least we’re not talking about big money.   There’s also the issue of eBay sniping.  I’ve always been frustrated when I was winning an auction in the waning seconds and BOOM, with one second left, someone takes it from me for 2 cents more than my maximum bid.  I’d just feel like I was unlucky or maybe I should have been watching a bit closer…shame on me.  But no.  Now I find out that there are sniper services available to anyone who wants to use them.  Just put in your eBay item number and a maximum bid, and a computer automatically snipes the item for you.  DISGUSTING !!!!   How could someone with any conscience at all do that sort of thing to an innocent?  Of all the nerve!  By the way, I just won a very nice misspelled Titleist (Listed as Titliest) Driver using a free trial of EZ Sniper.  You got a problem with that?  Anyway, I’m probably going to abandon the resale idea and focus on building and repairing golf clubs.  I’ve been building my own clubs and a few for my friends almost 20 years now.  Components nowadays are of awesome quality and some people just can’t afford the name brand stuff.  Hopefully for me, a lot of them can’t.  Is it bad that I just wished poverty on all avid golfers?  Sorry about that…..and sorry about sniping that driver.  I’m not giving it back though.
